Appeals for funds - We may, also at our discretion, include here appeals for charitable contributions. Such causes must have a local connection, and must NOT be for a well publicized national organization.

The BT VFD now has a web page www.brightontwpvfd.org  That will have updated info on the VFD events & fund raisers & much more.

 

SPECIAL EVENTS

The Beaver Area Memorial Library (BAML) has several event of interest:

Every Thursday - Chicks with Sticks - the BAML knitting club meets from 6:00 to 7:30 PM at the Library. Knitters of all ages & skill levels invited to attend. Instruction & help available at each meeting. No registration required.

May 21 -Presentation by Master gardeners of BC PSU Coop extension at the Beaver Library - Artistic Touches in Your Garden Registration at 6:00PM. $2.00 per class payable at registration.

June 7 - Annual gigantic Book Sale. Hardbacks go for $1.00, paperbacks for $0.50 - 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM. A $5.00 a bag sale will be held June 9 & 10. Donated books will be accepted starting May 27. For info, call the library at 724-775-1132.

June 30 - Seniors for safe driving course - 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Beaver Library - take the course to get your 5% discount on auto insurance. Call or register online - 800 559-4880 or sfsd-pa.com Tuition due before class begins.

Food & Nutrition Series:

June12 - The wonders of Chocolate - chocolate tasting included - 6:30 to 8:00 PM - $2.00 per person at registration

June 19 - What’s new in Nutrition & Heart Disease - 6:30 to 7:30 PM

June 26 - Protecting Your Family & Friends: Serving Safe Food - 6:30 to 7:30 PM

July 12 -Garden tour from 10:00AM to 1:00 PM. Tour several gardens in the Beaver area. For more info, or if you want your garden included, call the library at 724-775-1132.

Farmers Markets:

May to December - Farmers Market at the Beaver County courthouse parking lot. Saturdays10:00 AM to 1:00 PM  Lots of good FRESH fruits & vegetables. There are other Farmers Market in Beaver County - they are occasionally listed in the BeaverCounty Times.

 

Other Special Events:

May 10 - School & Community Picnic at Kennywood Park.

May 15 - A motor coach trip to Johnstown to visit the flood museum, ride the incline, have lunch at the City View Room, & visit the flood memorial. $45.00 per person. Bus leaves the BT Firemen’s Social Hall parking lot at 9:00 AM, arrives home about 5:30 PM. Tickets now available at the municipal bldg.  A nice spring trip - the trees have fresh leaves & spring blossoms are appearing. A lot cheaper than driving there yourself, and a fun trip.

June 6 - BAHS Commencement - congratulations to all our graduating students. Best wishes for their success in future endeavors, be it work or further education.
           
************************************************************************************ June 23 thru August 1 - A YMCA supervised program for children kindergarten thru 5th grade, jointly sponsored by Brighton Township, Beaver Borough and the School District. 10:00AM to 2:00PM Monday thru Friday at the Dutch Ridge Elementary School.  The program will feature arts & crafts, sports activities, field trips & more, including an end of season party.

SPECIAL DAYS
           
May 11 - Mother’s Day - Greetings to all the mothers out there.

May 26 - Memorial Day - time to remember those who have defended our freedoms.

June 14 - Flag Day - time to honor our nation’s flag.

June 15 - Father’s Day - time to give the ol’ man a big hug, and maybe another tie - no, no tie, a chocolate bar.

June 20 - Summer’s finally here - clean the grill and have a cookout.

July 4 - Independence Day - The 232nd birthday of our country!

 

SHOWS & CONCERTS

All school concerts are free and open to the public. River City Brass Band concert tickets may be purchased in advance from Beaver Area band parents at the reduced price of $12.00 for adults, $5.00 for students, under 12 free w/ adult. Price at the door is $15.00 for adults.

May 7 - River City Brass concert - Fabulous 50's - at 8:00 PM in the High School auditorium (there is a pre concert performance at 7:30)

May 8 - Middle School Spring Concert at 7:30 PM in the High School auditorium.

May 15 - High School Spring Concert at 7:30 PM in the High School auditorium.

May 29 - Middle school, High school Jazz Show Choir concert at 7:30 PM in the High School auditorium.

July 11 & 12, 18 & 19 - The Bobcat Players summer production The Foreigner by Larry Shue in the Ed Shaughency Auditorium at the High School.

 

LUNCHES & DINNERS

Note - Both the Firemen’s fish fries and the Community Spaghetti dinners have takeouts available. The price for the fish dinners is $7.50 for adults, $6.50 for children.

Also Note - The Community Spaghetti dinners are now the first or second Wednesday of the month, preceding the River City Band concerts - have dinner & go to the concert. Dinners are prepared by Little Meleo’s are $6.00 for adults, $5.50 for seniors, $5.00 for students, & children under 5 are free.

May 2 - Fish fry at the Firemen’s Social Hall on Dutch Ridge Road. 4:00 to 7:00 PM.

May 7 - Community Spaghetti Dinner at the High School - 4:30 to 7:30 PM

May 16 - Fish fry at the Firemen’s Social Hall on Dutch Ridge Road. 4:00 to 7:00 PM.

June 6 - Fish fry at the Firemen’s Social Hall on Dutch Ridge Road. 4:00 to 7:00 PM.

 

MEETINGS

May 13 - The Brighton Twp Historical Society will meet at 6:00 PM at the Schultz Lodge at Two Mile Run Park. Members should bring a covered dish & their table service for a covered dish dinner to precede the meeting.

May 15 - Board of Supervisors Regular Meeting - 7:00 PM at the Municipal Building

May 28 - Park & Recreation Board regular meeting - 7:00 PM at the Municipal Building

June 9 - Board of Supervisors Regular Meeting - 7:00 PM at the Municipal Building

June 25 - Park & Recreation Board regular meeting - 7:00 PM at the Municipal Building

July 14 - Board of Supervisors Regular Meeting - 7:00 PM at the Municipal Building

July 23 - Park & Recreation Board regular meeting - 7:00 PM at the Municipal Building

 

Sports

High School sports are nearly over - except for playoffs. But lots of games will be played at the townships 3 sets of fields plus the Med Center field.
